RECOGNISED Jim Sharrock Ever since I was a baby I’ve been destined for great things I used to laugh at my teachers when they told me that I couldn’t sing I dreamt much more then I ever worked and the years they rolled on by You know it hurt me: I wasn’t famous at thirty But I’ll get there before I die Cause I’m just waiting to be recognised I believe it’s just a matter of time I’m gonna leave all this squalor behind The moment that I’m recognised Let’s not argue over talent or skill, it’s obvious I’ve got them both All I need is a little more confidence and a wallet that aint so broke Cause I’ve had troubles, I’ve seen hard times, people tryin’ to hold me back They’re just jealous of my future top sellers and the fact I got a dynamite act CHORUS In the past when I’ve been playin’ the audience has been a bit thick And though I tried to simplify my lines they couldn’t catch my demanding wit But I can see you people can comprehend: my genius is hard to define And maybe one day you’ll be able to say you saw us when we played the small time CHORUS

Old man 04:04
OLD MAN Jim Sharrock Well I’m just an old, old man But I still know want and desire And though my bodies old and the skin hangs from my bones My blood still runs thick I’d give the rest of my life I’d give the rest of my life I’d give the rest of my life Just to lie next to my love For one night And then in the dark I will whisper my confession And she will be my high priestess And she’ll stroke my hair and forgive me And I will cry my last tear CHORUS I’ve lived an honest life, never done much harm And I know what I like I’ve lived an honest life, never done much harm And I know what I like Well I’m just an old, old man But I still know want and desire And though my bodies old and the skin hangs from my bones My blood still runs thick CHORUS

Hey Ho! 03:21
HEY HO! Jim Sharrock For years I’ve been seeking a sanctifying truth I aint looking for religion I’m just looking for the proof And they say that I might find it in the mountains of Nepal But I lost all my money on a long-shot in the fourth Well, up jumped the preacher, he said “listen to these words- You’ll never get to heaven while your thoughts are so perverse” Well, it got me thinking: could he see inside my mind? And if I looked in his tell me what would I find Hey Ho, you’ll never, never know, you’ll never, never know until you go. Up jumped the devil (WHAT DID HE SAY?) “I’ll take you to a paradise where people play all day” And though he was persuasive, I looked him in the eye I said “I heard about your stories, I know every words a lie” CHORUS Well, my wife caught a fever and fell into a swoon Talking in tongues and staring round the room And though she spoke a language that I could not understand We took her on tour in a gypsy caravan CHORUS Don’t believe the mystic, he’s got no evidence He saw a burning vision, it was probably in his head Cause he was eating mushrooms and flying saucer pie At least that’s what he told me as I saw him floating by CHORUS

HARD TO BELIEVE Jim Sharrock The house is quiet I can hear the crickets sing Yesterday’s dishes are piled by the sink It’s so peaceful I can hear the neighbours think She’s gone The smell of wildfire drifts in on the breeze The country burns beneath the summer heat I’ve a hunger but I don’t care to eat She’s gone I’m finding it so hard to believe that she’s gone I turn on the news for some company The picture glows blue beneath the Christmas tree She took the sofa, I kept the TV She’s gone So I step outside and look down at the town The traffic strings the lights like a fairy crown And in the morning all the presents will be found She’s gone CHORUS My parents used to leave out a shot of rum This year I thought I’d help myself to some I drank the bottle so Santa don’t get none She’s gone Is this a vision I see walking through the door She’s come back to me at the break of dawn And I reach out for her from the loungeroom floor But she’s gone CHORUS

LIFE WILL TEST YOU Jim Sharrock I’ve lost friends, I’ve lost fortune My child’s death I’ve had to bear But the hardest thing I’ve had to witness Was a mother lost to despair Life will test ya Life will test ya Life will test the most patient heart Trust my seed to the bare earth Let nature do her best Just to watch the storm clouds start to thicken Wash away all innocence CHORUS Soak in the sun of a new day Leave all that grief behind Though the times might be dark and troubled Must not let them darken our minds CHORUS
